Upwardly mobile: Orlando Bloom

In fameland you can get paid to turn up to parties. Developers have long been
wise to this and often rope in a celebrity to put their name to a building
project in return for a few bob. But Aquitainia, one of Dubai’s squillions
of fancy new towers de farce, is paying four celebrities. At last Thursday’s
launch party, Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding just had to show up and look thin,
while Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland had to sing. Orlando Bloom was the
official “ambassador”; he took the baton from Hilary Swank when she pulled
out. She’s still in talks with the project, however, which completes in 2012.
